Vroya’s Review
Like Texas Holdem? You’re gonna love Governor of Poker.
You start out with only a few bucks, and you’ve gotta win Poker Tournaments to win. I’ve only played a few minutes so far, just to get a feel for the game, but I promise you this, I’m going straight back to the game after I write this short review.
Gameplay is identical to regular Texas Holdem. I initially chose “Easy” for the game mode, and I’ll tell you - it doesn’t change the poker at all. Lol - I lost my first tournament - and badly (number 8 out of 8 players - you can’t get much worse than that.) Of course, I can “claim” that I only played a little bit “for testing purposes only” but that would be a lie. I simply didn’t play well, and the cards didn’t fall in my favor. I’m figuring that the “Easy Mode” refers to buying out the towns with your winnings.
I have played other poker games before, and done well, but ultimately I’ve gotten bored of them - the same game over and over, and just getting “cash” that really isn’t good for anything except making you feel good. Governor of Poker has you collecting, houses, transportation (horses, etc) so you can travel to other tournaments, etc. Ultimately I think you try to take over Texas. Cool - actual goals to complete.
The graphics are on par with other casual games, clean and crisp, but nothing to really make it stand out - but nothing bad about them. The audio is OK, you have crowd noises in the saloons, and the other “players” have a couple lines each. It does get a bit repetitive, but the sound can be turned off without taking anything from the game. By going to options, you can easily switch to or from windowed or full screen mode (great for keeping a small window open while you’re supposed to be doing something else), and there doesn’t seem to be a “timer”. From what I could tell, you can take a bathroom break any time you want (or walk the dog - as I had to do during my little test).
If you love Texas Holdem - Download and try out Governor of Poker. You’re gonna love it. When you decide to purchase it - be sure to check also join the Game Club. Doing so will get you this game for only $6.99! Enjoy!
