Vroya’s Review

Laura Jones and the Gates of Good and Evil is an engaging adventure / hidden object / logic puzzle game. There are no end it seems to all the different types of mini-games available in this game. It seems that every 5 minutes you are doing something totally different, and for people like me, that’s a good thing. You never spend enough time doing any one task to get bored. One minute you’ll be searching for objects, and the next putting a jigsaw puzzle together, and then the next, trying to shoot apples from a tree so you can feed hedgehogs. Seriously, your brain gets a decent workout from this game.

Gameplay is generally easy and laid back. So far (I haven’t completed the game) I’ve not run across any “chapter” where there is any kind of time limit. Sure, the dialog will tell you that there’s no time to waste, but it appears that you can spend as much time as you need to until you get a puzzle right, or find every object you need to find.

The storyline is rich and detailed, but very linear. While you can go back and replay any area that you’ve completed, you really don’t have any choice on what to do next. The story guides you, and tells you what to do next. That said, at least in the beginning, plan on running all over a college campus, running errands, making coffee, unlocking safes, and feeding fish to a cat.

Audio is extremely low-key. There is no spoken, audible dialog (sniff, sniff), and the background music is practically non-existent. The music is soft, mellow, relaxing, and you barely even know that it’s playing. Once again, I feel that’s a plus. Sometimes music can be a distraction when seeking that last coffee bean out of 30. Here, it seems to accentuate gameplay, not distract.

Final Verdict: Laura Jones and the Gates of Good and Evil will be loved by any hidden object or logic puzzle lover. Suitable for all ages with a good story to follow. The lack of time challenges makes this an ideal game for sitting back, relaxing, and give you brain a little challenge. Download the trial and see for yourself. If you’re a puzzle lover, you’re gonna want more than the first hour, I betcha.
