Vroya’s Game Review – Scrapbook Paige

Have you ever spent an hour or two going through your scrapbooking materials, looking for that one doodad that you just knew was there somewhere? It doesn’t matter how well you are organized, something is going to be really hard to find. If you have any idea what I’m talking about, and you enjoyed going through all of your “stuff” to find that one needed item, you’ll feel right at home with Scrapbook Paige.

Paige’s workspace is actually immaculately organized, by color, type of object, etc. In fact, I know a couple “die-hard” scrapbookers that would probably kill for her space. But even with the best organization, something is always out of place, and near impossible to find without a second set of eyes. That’s where you come in – you are that extra set of eyes.

Gameplay is standard fare for a hidden object game at first. You have a list of items the customer wants, and you have to find all the objects. At least one of these objects is always in a riddle though, and can be a little tough to figure out at first. When you do figure it out (or cheat and click the hint button) it clarifies in your mind and is usually followed by a snort and a “I knew that…” They aren’t too picky about the objects you find either. In several levels they would ask for something in particular, I’ll use a top hat for an example. I’d find it, click it and it would be accepted, then looking for other items, I’d find another 3 or 4 top hats. I never had a misclick when actually clicking on something on the list, so I figure that any one of them was correct – Nice… Speaking of pleasing the customer, Paiges Scrapbook has the absolute best magnifier I’ve ever seen in a hidden object game. The magnified objects are so clear and about 1 1/2 to 2 times larger when under the glass. And the convience – all you have to do is right-click your mouse and it’s there. The magnifying glass is invaluable for this game, and they did it right.

Once you find all the objects in a number of scenes, you will be asked to put a scrapbook together for a customer. You’ll be provided with a “stack” of trays with different decorations and doodads on them, and you have to find and place the items the customers want. Even after you finish completing the customers order, you don’t have to stop there. You can continue on, placing anything in those trays anywhere on the page until it’s how you’d like it to be. You earn stars for pleasing the customer, and this is a great way to get extra stars as well as just play around with a virtual scrapbook. Later on you can make scrapbooks of your own from scratch.

Audio is standard fare. The background music consists of nice catchy jazz tunes that do change from time to time, but after playing for a while, I almost always turn off the music. It was nice, but I like a change from time to time. Having the same music in my head for more than 30 minutes just drives me nutso – makes me think of my bad experiences as an elevator operator….

Graphics are superb. When going through the drawers and pegboard and sticker packs, it’s like looking at the real thing. In fact, I’ve seen these same items in real life scrapbooking collections. When making scrapbooks, you work with several real high quality photographs, and have access to much of what you’ve searched through already to make the pages with. The intro’s though are a bit cartoony, but decently drawn – but that’s not what we came to look at. All the hidden object and scrapbooking scenes are crisp and clean, no grainy or fuzzy images at all.

Final Verdict: If you are “into” scrapbooking, or just need a hidden object search “fix” you are going to love Scrapbook Paige. With decent audio, great graphics, and a nice little mix of hidden object searches and creative scrapbooking, Scrapbook Paige will keep you transfixed for hours. Just make sure you walk the dog before you sit down to play…
