Vroya’s Game Review - Poker for Dummies

So you want to learn how to play poker, but just can’t get your head wrapped around the rules? Well don’t put it off any longer, we’ve got just what you need in Poker for Dummies! Brought to you by Wiley Studios (creators of the entire “For Dummies” series of books) and developed by EA Games and Beanbag Studios, you are guaranteed a quality educational experience/game that’ll have you playing like a pro in no time! But don’t think of this as educational software- it’s much more than that! You also have unlimited realistic gameplay playing Texas Hold ‘Em, Omaha, and Seven Card Stud! See how much you can win (or see how long it takes you to go broke - LOL).

Starting up Poker for Dummies is just like reading one of their wildly popular books. You receive step by step instructions on all of the basics and more advanced features of poker gameplay in language that your average 6th grader will understand. After each “lesson”, you are presented with 10 simple questions, quizzing you on the previous lesson. If you get a question wrong, it reminds you of the right answer. This learning process is super easy, and never tedious or boring. In fact, some of the answers are downright funny to read.

Already know how to play but want to brush up on your skills? Then skip the lessons altogether! In practice mode you are given $200 to bet with against 3 other players, and are given a tutor to give you hints on what your “best move” should be. You also get a handy Odds Calculator, telling the possible percentage of having a winning hand - just like you see on televised poker matches. You can choose to ignore the tutor at any time and press your luck, but surprisingly, he’s right almost all the time.

The Poker Odds Calculator is available at any time without actually playing a game. When you fire it up outside of a game, you get to choose what community cards are dealt, and what is currently in your hand (or would like to see in your hand). Very easy to use, and provides a wealth of valuable poker information. Too bad you can’t download it to your watch for a game in real life…

OK - you’ve either finished all of the lessons and practiced until you’re confident, or you just want to skip to playing for real. No problem, Poker for Dummies is also a great Texas Hold ‘Em, Omaha, and Seven Card Stud poker game too! Skip right to playing at any time and choose your game. You start off with only $400 in your bankroll, and can either lose it all (me), or build up your bankroll as high as you want. Buy-in starts at $200 with betting at $2 - $4, and you can work all the way up to a $10,000 buy in with no limit betting. Choose the amount of players (up to 6) when you start a game, and choose your game! You never restricted to any one game, even when you’re rolling in the dough. Your stats are recorded so you can always check back on your performance and see just how good you’ve been doing, or see your mistakes on a bad day.

If you’re a die-hard poker fan, want to learn how to play, or just want to practice up for a real game, Poker for Dummies: Featuring Texas Hold ‘Em is the game you’ve been looking for. Don’t worry, nobody has to know you’re a “Dummy”. We’ll never tell.

Have you played Poker for Dummies? We’d love your comments and reviews.
